Submission instructions

Abstracts submission instructions

The Conference Committees will review submitted abstracts to determine those best suited for oral presentation.
Participants interested in submitting an abstract should follow the two-step procedure:
1. Filling the Abstract Information Form
2. Submitting the Abstract on the ISHS dedicated Web site

1. Abstract Information Form:
Prior to submit an abstract on-line, authors should fill the requested information in the Abstract Information Form. Click on the link Abstract Information Form and follow the instructions.
In the form, authors will be asked to select the thematic session and topic of the contribution, the category of the presentation (i.e. research, review, overview) and the preferential form of presentation (i.e. oral, poster).
Once completed the Abstract Information Form, authors will receive a confirmation e-mail, after which authors may proceed to step 2.

2. Submitting the Abstract on the ISHS dedicated Web site
To submit an abstract click on the Abstract submission link and follow the instructions to register with the DSpace system. Once registered, you can submit your abstract. Abstract submission help is available on the above site in the form of pdf documents and a quicktime movie.
The paper should not have been previously published and must be scientifically sound. Abstracts should normally be no longer than 350 words.

The abstract submission deadline is December 20th 2010.
Acceptance/revision/rejection of abstracts and form of presentation (oral vs. poster) will be communicated to authors by February 15th 2011.
The presenting/participant author must register for the conference by the registration deadline. Failure to register will result in removal of the abstract and of the full manuscript from the program.
All authors are expected to submit a complete manuscript for publication in an edition of Acta Horticulturae.

Full Manuscripts submission instructions

Each manuscript will be peer reviewed prior to publication and all authors of accepted abstracts will be notified and requested to submit their full paper through the on-line submission system. Full papers must not exceed 8 pages including all tables, figures, and references. Keynote speakers must also submit a manuscript . We strongly encourage all non-native English speakers to seek a language check of their manuscript before submission.
Please carefully follow the Acta Horticulturae manuscript preparation guidelines. Submissions that do not meet the guidelines will be returned to authors.
The deadline for receipt of manuscripts is April 15th 2011. Acceptance/revision/rejection of full manuscript will be communicated to authors by May 15th 2011. The deadline for revised full manuscripts is June 30th 2011.

Oral and poster presentations

There will be oral presentations during plenary sessions, and poster presentations during dedicated poster sessions.
Only one oral presentation is allowed per registered participant. However, there is no limitation on the number of posters presented per registered participant.
The preference for oral or poster presentation specified by the authors at submission is indicative only. Final decisions on whether a presentation is accepted as oral or poster will be made by the Conference Committees on the basis of the abstracts submitted. We hope you will understand that it may not be possible to accommodate all requests for oral presentations.

Oral Presentations

Each oral presentation will be given 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions. Computer projection will be available. Presentations must be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint and saved to either a CD or flash drive. Please contact the audio visual desk on arrival and transfer your presentation to the Conference computer and review to resolve any incompatibility issues.

Poster Presentations

Posters will have a maximum size of 120 x 100 cm (height x width), portrait page setup. It is recommended to use one complete (eg A0 paper) sheet, rather than multiple smaller sheets. At the top of your poster include the title, author(s) name and affiliations (organization, city and country). We suggest the poster title be at least 2.5 cm high. Lettering for the author’s name and affiliations may be smaller. Including a photograph of the presenting author helps participants to identify the person to talk during the meetings. The smallest lettering on the poster should be no less than 10 mm high. Illustrations should be visible from a 1m viewing distance. We suggest authors bring at least 20 small copies (eg. A4 size) of your poster to give to interested participants.
Posters display will be communicated in due course.

Author’s profile

Authors submitting an abstract are invited to fill the author’s profile to gain visibility to their work and affiliation.

The author’s profile form will be available on-line soon.
